The View B neckline includes a few more steps to add the strap details but the sewing is pretty simple and you are in the right place for more support.

Sew the Front & Back Straps

There are several methods when sewing straps. Here are two options to try for the Victory straps.

Sew Straps Option One – Topstitching

Fold the straps in half lengthwise, wrong sides together.

Victory Straps in coral fabric are shown folded in half lengthwise.

Then, fold the edges under by 3/8″ (1 cm).

Coral fabric strap pieces are shown folded in half lengthwise with one edge folded again.

Stitch the straps closed with visible edgestitching.

Sew Straps Option Two – Turning

Fold the straps in half lengthwise, right sides together and stitch at 3/8″ (1 cm).

Three coral fabric strap pieces are folded in half right sides together and pinned.

Trim the seam allowance to 1/8″ (0.3 cm).

Scissors are shown trimming the seam allowance of sewn strap pieces.

Turn right side out and press. A safety pin or turning tool can help with this step.

Mark the Stitch Lines for Attaching the Straps

Before attaching the straps, mark the stitch lines at 3/8″ (1 cm) with chalk or a washable marker. You’ll want to mark the bodice at the center front and at the neckline notch. For the straps, mark the stitch line 3/8″ away from the cut edge.

Coral fabric strap pieces and front bodice neckline are shown on a white background.

Attach the Straps at the Neckline

Lay the strap edges without the notch in an upside down V shape, making sure the stitch line meets at the V at the center front stitch line.

Straps are pinned in a v-shape on bodice neckline.

Sew in place at just under 3/8″ (1 cm).

Straps are sewn along the edge of the bodice neckline.

Attach the Front Straps Near the Shoulders

Flip the straps up and twist them so the straps’ notched edge meets the notch at the neckline near the shoulders.

Sew in place at just under 3/8″ (1 cm).

Straps are attached to center front and upper neckline of bodice.

Attach the Back Strap to One Side

Pin the back strap 3/8″ (1 cm) down from the back cut edge on one side only.

A small strap is shown pinned to the back neckline.

Sew in place at or just under 3/8″ (1 cm).

Sew the Shoulder Seams on Main & Lining

With the right sides together, sew the front and back bodice together at the shoulders. Press the seams open. Repeat for the lining.

Sew the Neckline & One Side of the Back Slit

Lay the main bodice with the right side facing up. Place the lining right side down on top of the main. Lined up the cut edges and pin around the neckline.

The wrong side of the lining is shown pinned right sides together with main at neckline.

Sew the neckline starting from the center back slit (right where the center back seam ends) and go around the neckline, stopping at the neckline corner and leaving one side of the slit open. This will be a bit cumbersome with the straps attached inside, but just work your way around slowly. Clip the curves.

Lining and main fabric are shown sewn at the neckline.

Pull Out the Back Strap & Insert Into The Other Side

We also have a video clip of this step HERE. The video references step numbers in the tutorial. The step numbers have been updated but the construction is the same.

Turn the bodice right side out and pull out the small back strap.

Back strap is shown sewn into one side of back slit.

You are going to insert the cut edge of the back strap in between the main and lining on the other side of the back slit. This will be a bit cumbersome, but pins will help keep the strap in place.

Back strap is shown pinned to the edge of back slit.

Sew the Last Side of the Back Slit

Pin the back strap in between the bodice main and lining at the top neckline corner and pin the back slit seam to the notch. Sew from the neck to the notch at the center back seam.

One side of back slit is shown pinned.

Clip the top corners to reduce bulk.

Back slit and necklines are shown sewn. Corners are clipped.

Turn Neckline Right Side Out

Turn the neckline right side out and confirm the straps are in the right place. Place the bodice over your head and confirm the straps are the right length before understitching.

Neckline of View B is shown turned right side out.

Understitch the Neckline

Open the bodice, lay flat and press the neckline seam allowance towards the center.

An iron is shown pressing the seam toward lining.

Understitch the neckline and back slit. You can do this from the right side or the wrong side of the garment. Make sure to catch the seam allowance towards the lining.

A machine presser foot is shown stitching closely to the seam.

Put the lining back inside the garment and press the neckline.
