We are continuing with attaching the sleeves to our front and back bodices. In this post, we’ll demonstrate how to sew the long sleeves and side seams for Views B & C.

SEW SLEEVES TO ARMHOLE

With the right sides together, pin the sleeve to the armhole flat, matching the notches, and sew the sleeves. Press the seam allowance towards the bodice.

SEW THE SIDE SEAMS – VIEWS B & C

With the right sides together, sew the side seams from the sleeves to the hem. Finish the side seam and press towards the back.

SEW LONG SLEEVE CUFFS

With the right sides together, fold the cuffs to form a tube and sew. Fold the cuffs again wrong sides together so the cuff is double and the right side of the fabric is on both sides.

SEW THE CUFF TO THE LONG SLEEVE

Place the sleeve inside the cuff tube, aligning the raw edges. Pin the cuff to the sleeve in the round, matching the underseams and the notch. Sew the cuff band while evenly stretching to fit the sleeve. Do not stretch the sleeve while attaching the cuff. The sleeve will gather to fit the cuff. Finish and press the seam allowance up.

OPTIONAL CUFF TOPSTITCH

Topstitch the cuff at 1/4” (0.6 cm) or 1/8” (0.3 cm) based on your preference, to hold the seam allowance in place.

We’re ready to hem our Pixie Tees! The next post will demonstrate how to finish the hem and insert the hem ties for View A, add hem bands for View B, and sew the regular hem for View C.

Next we’ll be attaching the long sleeves and sewing the side seams of Views B & C. To finish View A skip ahead to this post.
