Aria Top Fabric Recommendations and Inspiration

Selecting fabrics for a pattern is always such a joy, and finding these Aria Top fabric recommendations and inspiration photos was no exception. There are SO many wonderful options, and each gives the pattern a unique look. Keep reading to learn which fabric types you may want to choose and why.

Aria Top Ready to Wear Inspiration Board

First things first, grab yourself a copy of the Aria Top pattern if you haven't yet done so.

Before we get into fabric recommendations, there are a couple of notions you'll need to gather.

NOTIONS

  • 1/4 yd (1/4m) Tricot Fusible Interfacing. We recommend this tricot fusible interfacing from Wawak.
  • 1/4" Elastic (refer to the fabric chart in your pattern for needed length). For reference, the largest size requires 2.5 yards (2.5 meters).

FABRIC SOURCES AND READY-TO-WEAR INSPIRATION

The Aria Top is designed for light to medium weight woven fabrics. A lighter weight fabric will fall closer to the body and a medium weight fabric will maintain more of a bubble structure. A minimum fabric width of 54″ (137 cm) is required for sizes 26-30.

Suggested fabrics are challis, chambray, double gauze, lawn, linen, and voile.

COTTON AND LINEN SOLIDS

You really can't go wrong with a good cotton or linen solid like the double gauze top shown below. Since cotton and linen tend to have a little more body and less drape, they're great for showing off the bubble shape of the Aria. If you want the look of a solid with a bit more interest, you can often find lightweight woven fabrics with a little texture or subtle tonal patterns.

YARN DYED WOVENS

The Aria is perfect for showing off those extra special yarn-dyed woven checks and plaids. The bonus of few seam lines means you don't have to spend too much time (or any, we won't tell) perfectly matching up those plaids or stripes.

SPECIAL OCCASION FABRICS AND PRINTS

With the holiday season right around the corner, I'm excited about the idea of dressing up the Aria with prints or fun special occasion fabrics like this burnout silk version below. Notice how the bubble shape is much more subtle in this lightweight fabric with more drape. The Aria is also the perfect canvas for highlighting a bold or larger scale print; really the possibilities are endless.
