Max Tee Fabric Recommendations and Inspiration
It's been a while since I've been excited to get dressed! An elevated Tee is just the perfect transition piece for spring. I love pairing my Max Tees with jeans, cut-off shorts, and skirts. I look forward to seeing how you style and wear yours! Along with the release of the Max Tee pattern, we've put together this post to help you in planning and sourcing supplies for your Max.
First things first, grab yourself a copy of the Max Tee pattern if you haven't yet done so.
NOTIONS
There are some optional notions:
– 3/4” (2 cm) Fusible Hem Tape. I have a few different fusible rolls that I use for hemming knits, pictured below. We also have a post full of tips when hemming knits here.
– 1/2 yd (1/2 m) Tricot Fusible Interfacing. Optional for the armhole facings, more about that below.
– Tailor’s Chalk or Washable Fabric Marker
TRICOT
Using Tricot Fusible Interfacing on the armhole facing pattern pieces can accentuate the shoulder shape and works best on a stable knit. I would skip it if you are using a knit that stretches out.
FABRIC SOURCES AND READY-TO-WEAR INSPIRATION
The Max Tee is designed for medium weight 25%-50% stretch knit fabric. I originally pictured a classic cotton t-shirt jersey, but as I sewed up samples there were so many great fabrics that worked with the Max. The shape of this style is relaxed and boxy. Suggested fabrics are jersey, french terry, sweater knit, rib knit, and wool knit.
If you're sewing the rib neckband, your pattern piece requires 75%-100% stretch and 90% recovery. The main fabric can be used for the rib neckband if it meets the stretch and recovery requirements.
SWEATER KNITS
Made up in a sweater knit, you get the perfect amount of warmth for a spring Max Tee. The fabric pictured above is Morraine Double Cashmere from Surge Fabric Shop and comes in great colors. I also made a listing sample in the Banff Ultra Thick 1×1 Rib and it comes in matching colors to the Morraine Double Cashmere fabric.
STRIPES
I love the Max in a classic stripe! The fabric pictured above is sold out from Stonemountain, but I also used this St. James Stripe in Rayon/Poly/Spandex for our stripe listing sample.
SOLIDS
You will get so much wear out of a solid knit tee. You can't go wrong with any solid color you choose!
PRINTS
There are a lot of fun knit prints to choose from. I rounded up a few to get you inspired. I had to grab some of the daisy print for myself too!
