THE ISLE JEANS PATTERN IS HERE!

We couldn’t be more thrilled to finally introduce the Isle Jeans Pattern release and Isle Jeans Notions Kits! We have been working long and hard on getting this pattern just right for you. I’ve wanted to add more bottom options to our library, and a jeans pattern was the perfect addition to our Chalk and Notch pattern library. I have always loved a sailor-inspired jeans/trouser style. The super high waist and waistband-facing finish gives a really clean look. I did my best to make the Isle Jeans approachable and enjoyable to sew, and I hope you love them as much as I do!

The Isle pattern will be on SALE through
Friday, January 20th

No coupon code is needed!
We also have Isle notions kits, so make sure to grab that too!

The pattern is listed as INTERMEDIATE sewing level. Isle is a great introduction to jeans sewing with a few traditional details like a fly zipper, belt loops, and topstitching. There are detailed, step-by-step illustrated instructions to guide you along the way, and if you’d like more help, the Chalk and Notch Patterns Facebook Group is a great place to get support. Many of our testers are members there, so you have great resources if you ever need them.

We will also have a photo sew-along soon. Whether this is your first pattern or you’re a seasoned professional, we want to provide you with all the resources you need.

Isle Jeans Size Chart: 0 – 30

Use the finished measurements to determine your size. You may want to size down if you fall between sizes. When sewn in 10% – 15% stretch denim, you will be able to fit into a few sizes. Choosing a size depends on how much negative ease you prefer for stretch jeans. Referencing a pair of your ready-to-wear stretch jeans is helpful to know your ease preference.

Reference the finished garment measurements and ease recommendations. It is always recommended to sew a test garment to confirm fit, especially if your waist and hips fall into different sizes.

Finished Garment Measurements

This style sits high at your natural waist, above your navel. The pattern is drafted with negative ease through the waist. Once sewn in 10% – 15% stretch fabric, the finished waistband will stretch about 2” (5 cm). If you prefer no ease or negative ease in the waist or if your fabric has more than 15% stretch, consider sizing down. There is no ease included in the hips, but negative ease is wearable. No ease is included for the flare leg thigh, and 1/2” (1.25 cm) of ease is included for the wide leg thigh. A minimum of 1” (2.5 cm) of ease in the knee is suggested. Referencing a pair of your ready-to-wear stretch jeans is helpful to know your ease preference for your waist, hips, thighs, and knees.

The flare leg inseam length is 32” (81 cm). The knee placement is 12.25” (31 cm) from the inseam. To adjust the leg, check your knee placement and adjust above and below the knee at the pattern cut lines. The wide leg includes a cropped inseam length of 26” (66 cm) and a full-length inseam of 32” (81 cm). Adjust the wide leg length at the hem.

CUSTOM-FITTING ADJUSTMENTS

All our patterns include basic custom fitting adjustments, but we are also working on a post with more details on adjusting the Isle Jeans. We hope to provide you with all the help to make a successful garment. Especially for this pattern, we recommend sewing a test garment in non-precious fabric first to check the fit before sewing your final version. Since stretch percentage can vary so much between fabrics, a quick baste fitting of your final fabric is also recommended. If you need additional help or have questions, please feel free to email me or join the Chalk and Notch Patterns Facebook Group – I’m always happy to hear from you!

TESTER PHOTOS

We were so lucky to work with a talented and detail-oriented test group while perfecting the Isle Jeans. While styled photos are never a required part of testing, we’re always happy to share any that are submitted. Seeing a pattern on a variety of people and in different fabrics can be a valuable tool. Check out the tester post here.

I’d love to see what you come up with, so if you share your makes, please tag @chalkandnotch and use the hashtags #cnisle and #chalkandnotchpatterns so I can see your creations.
