In this post, we will sew the waist casing for the dress views. If you are finishing a set, you can finish the skirt here.
DRESS | SEW THE BODICE TO THE SKIRT
With the right sides together, sew the skirt to the bodice at a 3/4” (2 cm) seam. Match the side seams, the center front, and the center back. If sewing the C/D version, make sure to match the front and back. The fronts will be longer.
Sew and finish the seam. Press the seam allowance up towards the bodice. This large seam allowance will create the waist elastic casing.
DRESS | SEW THE WAIST CASING
Pin the seam allowance in place. Edgestitch the finished edge and leave a 2” (5 cm) opening towards the back to insert the elastic.
DRESS | INSERT 1/2” (1.25 CM) ELASTIC
Use the cut chart on page 7 to cut your dress waist elastic length. Add safety pins to both ends. Thread the elastic through the opening, being careful not to twist it.
Overlap the edge by 3/8” (1 cm) and pin in place. Once the elastic length is confirmed, secure the elastic with a zig zag stitch. Edgestitch the opening of the casing to enclose the elastic.
