Now we are ready to start sewing! Here’s a link to the video sew along for the tier 1 stay stitching and sewing the straps. Feel free to watch the video for this step or follow along below.

Before we start sewing the straps, we want to make sure we stay stitch the top edge of the side panel tier 1 pieces and add fusible interfacing if you didn’t block fuse your fabric.

STAY STITCHING

Before handling your cut pieces too much, sew a stitch line 1/4” (0.6 cm) away from the fabric edge on the top edge of the side panel tier 1 pieces. This will prevent this bias seam from stretching out. Set tier 1 pieces aside.

ADD FUSIBLE INTERFACING

If you haven’t block fused your bodice and straps, now’s the time to attach the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the straps, bodice pieces and the bodice facing pieces. 

SEW STRAPS

With right sides together, fold the straps in half lengthwise. Sew the long side of the strap.

Press the seam open with the seam centered.

Turn right side out and press. A turning tool or safety pin can be helpful for turning the straps. Set the finished straps aside.

Now we are ready to sew the bodice!
