I always love writing up these fabric recommendations for each new release because it’s a joy to search beautiful fabrics and envision the possibilities. Before we talk fabric, I like to share a bit of ready to wear inspiration to aid in styling and sharing my vision for the pattern. See a preview below and find even more inspo on the Reya Pinterest board here.

If you haven’t already, make sure to grab a copy of the Reya Pants and Shorts sewing pattern.

FABRIC SOURCES

The Reya sewing pattern is designed for medium weight woven fabrics with a recommended weight of 5 to 7 oz. One of my favorite things about this pants and shorts pattern is that it can be sewn in a variety of fabrics to suit most any season, style, or occasion.

Recommended fabrics are hemp, linen, rayon, twill blends, and wool.

Recommended lining fabrics are rayon bemberg or rayon challis.

CLASSIC NEUTRALS

If your goal is a classic pair of pants or shorts that you can wear for years to come, you just can’t beat a neutral linen, lighter weight denim, or chambray. These fabrics are also easier to sew and more forgiving of minor mistakes so they’re a great choice for a quick sew or your first foray into pant making.

EVERYDAY FAVORITES

I just love the impact some subtle color can make on an outfit. Fabrics like Tencel, rayon challis, and cupro can often be found in these deep saturated colors that are just as versatile for year-round wear as the neutrals shown above.

BRIGHT AND BOLD

A brightly colored linen just feels like Spring and is my favorite choice for the shorts view. If you’re feeling extra bold, using a fun stripe or textured fabric can really make a statement.

ELEVATED FABRICS FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS

With the holiday season just around the corner, I couldn’t resist sewing up a few pairs of Reya Pants in silky cupro, rayon, and satin fabrics. These samples were everyone’s favorite at the photoshoot because they look gorgeous while feeling like secret pajamas. I do have to add a little disclaimer here that these fabrics can be tricky to sew and may take a bit more time and skill than a more stable linen or cotton.
