PATTERN DETAILS
Reya is a woven wide leg pant or short with front pintuck detail.

The waist is finished with elastic and an optional drawstring. High-rise and mid-rise options are available, along with four pant inseam lengths. Because these pants and shorts are so versatile, I had so much fun pairing them with several tops from our pattern collection.

The pattern is listed as an ADVANCED BEGINNER sewing level with enough details to keep all skill levels engaged. More stable wovens are recommended for beginners, but experienced sewists may up the difficulty level by choosing trickier fabrics like cupro or silk. There are detailed, step-by-step illustrated instructions to guide you along the way, and if you’d like more help, the Chalk and Notch Patterns Facebook Group is a great place to get support. Many of our testers are members there, so you have great resources if you ever need them.
We’ll have a photo sew-along available soon. Whether this is your first pattern or you’re a seasoned professional, we want to provide you with all the resources you need.

Garment Ease & Finished Length
This style is designed to have 10″ (25.5 cm) of ease through the wasit without elastic and 5″ (13 cm) of ease through the hips. There are two rise options; a high-rise will sit high at your natural waist, above your navel. The mid-rise is 2″ (5 cm) lower and will sit at your navel or just below.
There are four pant inseam lengths: 26″ (66 cm), 28″ (71 cm), 30″ (76 cm), and 32″ (81 cm). The shorts inseam is 3″ (7.5 cm). To adjust the length of the pants, you can extend or remove at the hem. To adjust the length of the shorts, cut and adjust at the thigh cut line.

CUSTOM-FITTING ADJUSTMENTS
All our patterns include basic custom fitting adjustments, but you can find more detailed adjustments and fitting advice in our fitting post here. As always, we recommend sewing a muslin or test garment in non-precious fabric first to check the fit before sewing your final version. If you need additional help or have questions, please feel free to email me or join the Chalk and Notch Patterns Facebook Group – I’m always happy to hear from you!

FABRIC & NOTIONS
Main Fabric
This is a quick overview of the fabric and notion requirements, but if you are looking for specific fabric recommendations and inspiration, you can find more in our fabric post here.
This style is designed for medium weight woven fabrics; 5 to 7 oz weight is recommended. Lightweight lining fabric is recommended for the side pockets to reduce bulk. If your main fabric is lightweight, you can cut the side pockets out of main fabric, but you’ll need an additional 1/2 yd (1/2 M) of main fabric.
Recommended Main Fabrics
Medium weight fabrics with just a bit of drape like hemp, linen, rayon, twill blends, and wool are recommended. For a more dressed up look, fabrics like cupro or silk can be used but, sewing them may be a bit more difficult.
More info on fabric recommendations can be found on our Reya Pinterest Board here.

Fabric Chart
The minimum fabric required is listed. If you think you will need more for shrinkage, directional print, pattern matching or print repeat, please purchase accordingly.

Notions
Just a few basic notions are needed for sewing the Reya. In fact, you may have the elastic and matching thread already in your stash.
- 1/2 YD (1/2 M) Lining for Side Pockets (if you are not using your main fabric)
- 1/4 YD (1/4 M) Tricot Fusible Interfacing
- 1 1/2 YDS of 1″ (2.5 cm) Waist Elastic
- Coordinating Thread

Optional Notions
- Tailor’s Chalk for marking notches.
- Safety Pins for threading the drawstring and elastic through casings.
- A Hem Gauge is helpful for hemming.
- Grommets if not using buttonholes for ties.
- Ribbon for ties if not using main fabric.

TESTER PHOTOS
One of my favorite parts of developing a pattern is working with fellow sewists during testing. The Reya testers were so thorough and helpful with some even sewing multiple versions, which is always a good sign. While styled photos are never a required part of testing, we love sharing any photos that are submitted. Seeing a pattern on a variety of people and in different fabrics can be a valuable tool. You can find the Tester round-up post here.
