The Shay pattern is a maxi dress with a wide scoop neck and fitted bodice. The skirt has three gathered tiers. There are elbow length puff sleeves or a tank option for both views. View A finishes with a center back invisible zipper. View B finishes with center front buttons.

Fitting and custom adjustments is an important part of apparel sewing, we go over the most common adjustments you may need for the Shay pattern.
Let’s get started on the Shay Dress Sew Along. Here you’ll find all the info you need to begin with info on supplies, cutting, and cut lists.
Properly prepared pieces will set you up for a great sewing experience. Here we’ll prepare the bodice with interfacing and staystitching.
Now we’ll begin the sewing portion of by sewing the bodice princess seams, attaching the lining at the neckline, and finishing the armhole (tank view only).
It’s time to create and attach the optional sleeves. We’ll sew the pin tucks, cuffs, and sleeve ties before attaching them to the bodice.
In this post we’ll prepare the skirt tiers before attaching to the bodice.
Let’s finish up View A by inserting the invisible zippers then attaching and hemming the tiers.
Now let’s finish up View B! We’ll attach and hem the tiers before sewing the button placket.
