Ivie Sew Along | Sew Tank Sleeve
In this post, we will be sewing the tank top or dress ruffle sleeves. If sewing the cap or 3/4 sleeves skip to this post here.
TANK OR TANK DRESS | HEM THE RUFFLE SLEEVES
Prep the hem (the longer side) by stitching a fold guide at 1/4” (0.6 cm).

Flip the ruffle so it is wrong side up. Press the hem up 1/4” (0.6 cm), wrong sides together.

Fold the hem up again at 1/4” (0.6 cm) and pin in place. Sew from the wrong side, edgestitching the double-folded hem in place. Repeat for the second ruffle sleeve.

TANK OR TANK DRESS | SEW THE RUFFLE SLEEVES TO THE BODICE
With the right sides together, sew the ruffle sleeves to the front and back bodice neckline. Match the short ends of the ruffle sleeves to the neckline point.

When sewing to the back, make sure not to twist the ruffle straps. Press the seams towards the ruffle straps.

TANK OR TANK DRESS | SEW THE BIAS TO THE ARMHOLE
With the right sides together, pin the bias to the armhole and sew at 3/8” (1 cm).

The bias will be longer than the armhole edge. Trim the seam allowance to half to reduce bulk. Press the seam up towards the bias.
TANK OR TANK DRESS | UNDERSTITCH THE BIAS
Understitch by stitching a line 1/16” (0.15 cm) away from the seam on the bias. Make sure to catch the seam allowance towards the bias when stitching.

TANK OR TANK DRESS | EDGESTITCH THE BIAS
Flip the bodice so it is wrong side up. Press the bias edge towards the center so the cut edge meets the stitch line. Fold one more time so the bias is lying on the inside of the bodice. Pin in place. Edgestitch the bias from the wrong side, catching the very edge. Trim bias excess. Press.
