Tess Sew Along | Dress Side Seams, Slit, and Hem
In this installment of the Tess Sew Along, we’ll sew the side seams, slits, and hem for the dress view.
Unless noted, the seam allowance included is 3/8″ (1 cm) for joined seams.
SEW SIDE SEAMS & PRESS THE SLIT & HEM | DRESS
With the right sides together, sew the side seams from the sleeve or armhole to the slit extension notch.

Cut the seam allowance, right above the slit extension.

Finish the side seam to the cut seam. Press the side seam to the back and the slit extension open.

This is a good time to try on the dress to confirm the length is correct. If you would like to remove length, you can cut length from the hem.
SEW THE SLIT EXTENSION | DRESS
Turn the dress right side out. With the right sides together, fold the slit extension back.

Sew a seam 1 3/8″ (3.5 cm) up from the hem. turn the hem right side out and repeat for all four corners.

SEW THE HEM & SLIT EXTENSION | DRESS VIEW
With the dress wrong side out, pin the hem and slit extension in place and edgestitch to secure the slit and hem.
