Tess Sew Along | Sleeves and Top Side Seams
In this installment of the Tess Sew Along, we’ll attach the sleeves for sleeved views and sew the top side seams. Our sew-along sample includes long sleeves, but the construction is the same for the short-sleeve version.
Unless noted, the seam allowance included is 3/8″ (1 cm) for joined seams.
SEW SLEEVES TO ARMHOLES | TOP AND DRESS
If sewing the tank view, skip to the next step and sew the side seams. With right sides together, pin the sleeves to the armholes, matching the notches, 1 notch for the front and 2 notches for the back.

Sew, finish and press the sleeve seam allowance towards the bodice. Repeat for the other side.

SEW THE SIDE SEAMS | TOP OR TANK VIEW
When sewing the top view, with right sides together, sew the side seams from the sleeve to the bodice hem.

When sewing the tank view, sew the side seams from the armhole to the bodice hem.
Finish and press the seams to the back.
SEW THE HEM | TOP AND TANK VIEW
Fold the hem wrong sides together at 1″. Pin.

Edgestitch the hem in place using your preferred stretch stitch. Skip to the final sew-along post to finish your top.
That’s it for this installment of the Tess Sew Along. Check out our other sew-along posts below.
