Follow steps 35-38 if adding the hem facing. If you've opted for a double fold hem instead, skip to step 39.
35. SEW THE HEM FACING SIDE SEAMS
With the right sides together, sew the front and back hem facings at the side seams and the center back. The center back has a 3/4" (2 cm) seam allowance.
Press the seams open.
36. SEW A HEM GUIDE
Prep the hem facing by stitching a fold guide just under 3/8" (1 cm) at the top edge without the notches. Press the top hem 3/8" (1 cm), wrong sides together.
Press the top hem 3/8" (1 cm), wrong sides together.
37. SEW THE HEM FACING TO THE SKIRT & UNDERSTITCH
With the right sides together, sew the hem facings to the skirt hem. Press the seam towards the facing.
Understitch by stitching a line 1/16" (0.15 cm) away from the seam on the facing. Make sure to catch the seam allowance towards the facing when stitching.
38. EDGESTITCH THE HEM FACING
Press the hem facing towards the inside of the skirt and pin the folded facing edge in place. Sew from the wrong side, edgestitching at 1/16" (0.15 cm) from the folded edge. Make sure your bobbin thread matches the right side of your garment and press. Skip to final press.
39. SEW A DOUBLE FOLD HEM
If your skirt is cut on the bias, you may find it helpful to let your dress hang for a day. When sewing the bias skirt or omitting the hem facing, finish the hem with a double-fold hem. Prep the hem by stitching a fold guide at 1/4" (0.6 cm). Press the hem 1/4" (0.6 cm), wrong sides together. Fold the hem up again at 1/4" (0.6 cm) and pin in place. Sew from the wrong side, edgestitching the hem in place. Make sure your bobbin thread matches your main fabric. Press the hem.
40. FINAL PRESS | ALL VIEWS
You’re finished. Give your Bora Dress a Final Press.
