Sew Alongs / All / Evelyn

We’ll begin sewing View C by sewing the front seam, the slit facing, side seams, and assembling the waistband.

FINISH THE FRONT AND SLIT EDGES

Finish the straight edge above the slit curve on the front skirt pieces. Finish the outer edge of the slit facing. If you prefer a clean finish on the slit, press the edge under 3/8” (1 cm), wrong sides together. The photos will show finished edges.

SEW THE FRONT SEAM

With the right sides together, sew the two front skirt pieces together at the finished seam. Press the seam open.

SEW THE SLIT FACING

With the right sides together, sew the slit facing together at the short center front seam. Press the seam open. Set aside for now.

SEW THE SIDE SEAMS

With the right sides together, sew the front and back skirt together at the side seams. Finish the seams and press towards the back.

SEW THE WAISTBAND AND WAISTBAND FACING SEAMS

There is a waistband and waistband facing. The waistband facing is 1/8” (0.3 cm) shorter to help it roll to the inside of the skirt. The waistband has one notch and the waistband facing has two notches. With the right sides together, sew the front waistband to the back waistband, matching the notch. Press the seams open. Repeat for the waistband facings.

SEW THE WAISTBAND TO WAISTBAND FACING

With the right sides together, place the waistband inside the waistband facing. Sew the top edge of the waistband to the waistband facing, matching the center front and center back notches. Trim your seam to half. Clip curves and press the seams towards the facing.

UNDERSTITCH THE WAISTBAND FACING

Understitch the waistband facing by stitching a line 1/16” (0.15 cm) away from the seam. Make sure to catch the
seam allowance towards the facing when stitching. Turn the waistband right side out and press.

Next, we’ll attach the waistband. We’ll finish our View C skirt by sewing the slit facing and finishing the hem.
